Lifelong Learning Master's Degree in Smart Cities & Intelligent Buildings of the University of Salamanca

The term "Smart City" sprung in recent years and it is going to have an ever-growing influence on our society. Some cities have already started to identify themselves as smart by demonstrating their technological adaptation to attract new citizens and investments, optimise city services, improve the living standards and maximize the planned investments.

This master's degree has been introduced as a result of the novel vision of cities and the technological paradigm of Smart Cities. Upon the completion of this degree students acquire a professional profile that is highly demanded nowadays. They will be knowledgeable about the technologies and computer models used within the framework of Smart Cities (data collection, automation, data science, platforms, building automation, energy consumption, efficiency, sustainability, etc.).

Who is it for?

Lifelong Learning Master's Degree

It is open to students who hold an official university degree, from Spain or another country, issued by a higher education institution in the European Higher Education Area.


Students will be admitted on a first-come, first-served basis until all available places have been taken, provided that the students have the required qualifications.

Career opportunities

Upon graduating, students will have the capacity to work as:

  • Coordinator of a development group
  • Consultant. Many companies in the telecommunications sector need a professional trained in the area of Smart Cities, with knowledge in inter-device communications.
  • Programmer of urban domotics projects.
  • Researcher in projects aimed at automating the processes of urban, industrial, transport or health sectors, so that they can be completed more rapidly, precisely and efficiently, and in a less invasive way.
  • Analysts of the large amount of data that smart cities generate, drawing conclusions from them.

Learning Mode:
Online and Blended

The teaching will take place in on-site laboratories that can be streamed by students in the online mode. These days will be indicated in the calendar of activities.

In the online mode the teaching will be done through our plataforma de formación virtual. The topics will be presented periodically and will include videos, graphic resources, etc. Some of the on-site classes will also be recorded and students will be able to view them on the training platform.

Work placement in companies

Online or on-site internships will be offered to students thanks to our collaboration with the IoT Digital Innovation Hub. This Lifelong Learning Master's Degree collaborates with companies that offer internships to students who are completing their studies, contributing to their professional development.
